It was built around 1550 by the Giovio family. In 1778, it was sold to Cardinal Durini, who turned it into a veritable construction site. So captivated by the beauty of Lake Como that he also built Villa Balbianello, but he was only able to enjoy it for a decade before his death in 1796.
